2.0 Apps

Also known as ‘The Pool Room’ as in this is going straight to the Pool Room. There are so very many web 2.0 applications out there. Here are some that I’ve stumbled across thanks to lectures and blogs from my fellow students:

Stock photography (stock.xchng) – Royalty stock photos (great explanation here), and Shutterstock for more royalty free photos

Workflowy – Absolutely inspired application for organising your brain, love it! (great explanation here)

Fold It – Solving a challenging scientific problem through an interactive game (great explanation here)

WordSquared – Another game, basically scrabble on an international scale (great explanation here)

Ushahidi – Mashup platform gathering many streams of data about crisis events, connecting those in need with those who can help (great description here)

PearlTrees – Collecting the interesting stuff in a mind-map type structure, it all makes great sense.

MyTaxi – Order a taxi through the web, connecting passengers and drivers (great explanation here)

www.kaggle.com – Crowdsourcing for statistical/analytical solutions to problems

Yahoo pipes – Not quite sure what it is yet but I know I’m going to have fun playing with it (much, much better explanation here)

Kickstarter – Crowd-sourcing funding for creative products

Adobe express – Free photo editing web-based application (great explanation here)

SugarSync – Cloud storage app. Like dropbox but a much better user interface

FixVegas – iPhone app to report problems to brisbane city council (great explanation here)

And that’s not all! http://www.go2web20.net/

And that’s not all! General cool stuff:
